GlossaryBaker's Rack: originally used to cool baked goods, baker's racks are now used to display items in the kitchen or dining room, or to create additional storage space.
Brass: an alloy of copper and zinc, used to create a durable and antique-looking finish. Copper: a malleable element with a reddish-brown hue, used to create a finish that can sometimes change to a green patina over time. Corner Rack: a shelving unit or baker's rack designed to fit in corners to maximize the use of space. Finish: a final coat of paint, veneer, metal, etc used to protect the base material. Iron: a durable and ductile element, rarely found or used in its pure form; often used in tools, machinery, and kitchen implements. Tempered Glass: produced through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, tempered glass is much stronger than standard glass, and will not break into sharp pieces. Stainless Steel: Stainless Steel does not stain, corrode, or rust as often as regular steel due to the addition of a small amount of chromium, which forms an invisibly thin layer of chromium oxide on the outside of the steel. This layer is quite resilient and can reform when the surface of stainless steel is scratched. The thickness of stainless steel is determined by its gauge (see Steel Gauge below). Steel Gauge: The gauge of steel measures its thickness in a sheet. Higher number gauges refer to thinner sheet steel, while lower gauges refer to thicker sheet steel. Wine Rack: a rack made specifically for storing wine bottles.
Wrought Iron: commercially-pure, low carbon iron. It is easily welded into a variety of ornate shapes.
